- Moldy, smelly or water damaged items. Mold will spread to other materials, so discard them.
- Magazines

- Textbooks
- Computer books more than 5 years old
- Toys or games
- Encyclopedias
- Directories
- Business or Science books more than 10 years old
- Homemade copies
- Foreign language materials

Places where you can dispose of unwanted materials include: secondhand book dealers, recyclers.
If they need to be pitched, you can put paperbacks in your recycling bin as long as the cover does not have any plastic in it. Hardcovers, you have to tear the pages out and discard the covers and backs.
